No Context Grand Designs keeps fans smiling

A No Context Grand Designs account is keeping fans of the show happy on X and Instagram with its funny screen shots from the programme

A strictly unofficial, humorous Grand Designs ‘out-of-context’ account, that goes by @ukgranddesigns on X and @nocontextgranddesigns on Instagram, is keeping fans of the programme smiling with its diet of screenshots from the show that somehow have just perfect subtitle captions.

The screenshot/caption combinations posted manage to sum up the show; the trials and tribulations of its participants; and, hell, yes, even the human condition, with wry humour and exquisite bathos. Think: screenshot of depressed looking wife wearing a hard hat and standing next to Kevin McCloud wearing a hard hat and staring intently at something off-screen, and beaming husband wearing a hard hat grinning happily in the same direction, while the subtitle spells out Kevin’s observation: “It looks like a concrete bunker someone’s set on fire.”

Out-of-context memes have been around for a while, spawning other popular ‘no context’ social-media accounts based on screenshots taken from a whole range of TV shows, from The Great British Bake Off to Succession. The No Context Grand Designs account was started in 2021 and now has 60,000 followers on X and 120,000 on Instagram. It’s well worth a follow if you’re a fan of the show (and don’t mind the odd bit of swearing).
